Albert E. Kotary

 

Albert E. Kotary, 93, of Rome, passed away January 21, 2012 at Colonial Park Rehabilitation Center. Born April 27, 1918 in Utica, he was a son of Robert and Anna Smith Kotary. On September 30, 1939, Al was united in marriage to Betty Wilson at St. Mary’s Church in West Leyden. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps for seven years. He later worked for Navelli Motors for 18 years and for 40 years he operated Kotary Motors. As a master mechanic, Al was responsible for the work on his brother Cliff’s cars for all his wins including his wins at the NY State Fair.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Gerry "Pepper" Martin, South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, David and Betty Kotary, Rome; two brothers, Donald "Herc" and Dolores Kotary, and Charles Kotary; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Al was predeceased by his wife Betty in 2007; two sisters, Margaret Come and Barbara Kotary; eight brothers, Eugene, Joseph, George, Willard, Elwin, James, Robert and Clifford.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Boonville in the spring. There are no calling hours.
