Fall River, New Bedford residents face charges

By The Cape Cod Times

EDGARTOWN -- A Fall River man was indicted for attempted murder and a New Bedford man was indicted for trafficking in cocaine yesterday by a Dukes County grand jury.
Keith G. Ledoux, 25, of Fall River, is being charged with armed assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the shooting of Timothy Codori, 33, of Florida.
Codori was shot in the head with a .22-caliber handgun during an argument with Ledoux. The shooting was apparently preceded by an argument over Codori's alleged romantic interest in Ledoux's girlfriend.
After a heated dispute between the two men at a dairy farm in West Tisbury, Ledoux allegedly shot Codori.
Codori was flown to Brigham and Women's Hospital where he slowly recovered. Police recovered a .22-caliber Ruger pistol at the scene.
In an unrelated matter, Michael Saurez, 22, of New Bedford was indicted on a cocaine trafficking charge.
Suarez was a passenger in a car driven by Joseph A. Leguerre, 19, of New Bedford. The car was stopped by police in Oak Bluffs. Police said they found 26 grams of cocaine and $165 in cash on Suarez.

Man pleads guilty in shooting

By Karen Jeffrey, Cape Cod Times

EDGARTOWN -- A Fall River man will spend five years in state prison for shooting another man in the head in West Tisbury last summer during a dispute over a woman.
Keith G. Ledoux, 25, changed his mind yesterday about taking the case to trial. He changed his plea to guilty after opening statements were offered in Edgartown District Court. Ledoux was charged with armed assault with intent to kill and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
He was sentenced to five years in state prison and three years of probation that will begin once he is released from prison.
"It was a difficult case to sort through," said Cape and Islands Assistant District Attorney Robert Welsh. "There was inappropriate conduct on the part of the victim, but that in no way justifies a shooting."
Welsh credited state Police Sgt. Jeffrey Stone and West Tisbury Police Officers Matt Minicone and Herbert Moody with sorting through conflicting testimony about the shooting, which took place June 5 at the Nip-N-Tuck Farm in West Tisbury.
Ledoux and Timothy Codori were both employees at the farm. On the morning of the shooting, Codori grabbed Ledoux's girlfriend in what Welsh described as "an inappropriate manner."
She complained to Ledoux, who that evening carried a .22-caliber Ruger pistol into the barn, where he found Codori in a hayloft.
Ledoux later told the police he and Codori spoke. Codori told the police he was asleep when Ledoux shot him in the head.
Codori, who had a Florida address at the time of the incident, was treated at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He recovered and has returned to the island.
Welsh said "there was a significant amount of alcohol involved on the part of all parties involved in this dispute."

* A worker's compensation claim drawn from a 1998 shooting at the Nip 'N' Tuck Farm in West Tisbury. Timothy Codori is suing Sandra Fisher, executrix of the will of Fred Stanley Fisher Jr.

Mr. Codori claims he was working as a handyman at the farm when a transient shot him in the face. He said he has suffered pain and cannot work at his chosen occupation. When the lawsuit was filed, in 1999, he said he had accumulated $46,000 in medical bills. He claims he should have been covered by worker's compensation insurance.

Ms. Fisher counters that Mr. Codori was working as an independent contractor, and she also states his injury occurred when he was not working.

She claims that a man named Keith Ledoux shot Mr. Codori after Mr. Codori drank eight to 10 beers, assaulted Mr. Ledoux's female companion and then fell asleep. Mr. Ledoux subsequently was convicted for the shooting.
